Marriott

Sales and Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Waikoloa Village, HI

What I liked

I absolutely loved shadowing different departments within the Marriott everyday and learning something new to enhance my knowledge.

What I wish was different

For my final project for the internship, I received a late notice and had to complete it in a short amount of time.

Advice

Be open-minded and try to find new ways to innovate.

Recreation Intern

May - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to be involved in my industry. There was always something new going on! My department was very active, and I had the opportunity to pick up hours as a Housekeeping Supervisor. I learned so much!

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a clearer path to stay on after my internship was over. There are opportunities for Seniors to apply early to the Voyage program, though!

Advice

Go in with an open mind. You're here to learn. Try everything, even if it isnt what you had hoped for. Experience is everything, and this is a great place to gain experience.

Hotel Front Desk Clerk

March 2016 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Nearly everything. Free lunch (hot lunch & salad bar). Healthcare premiums free for employee & significantly discounted for dependents & spouse/domestic partner. Extremely diverse- disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, first language, etc. Generous Sick Time policies & accrual.

What I wish was different

Schedule changes every week. Not consistent with days off or time schedules. Seniority matters, even in non-unionized departments.

Recreation intern

June - August 2019 • Scottsdale, AZ

What I liked

The company was super friendly to work for and the internship program gave me opportunities to shadow other departments in the hotel.

What I wish was different

Working in a hotel you only get your schedule one week in advance which I didn’t like and my schedule was all over the place with no weekends off.

Advice

It is a really great foot in the door if you are interested in going into hospitality.

Msb opperations intern

June - December 2019 • Pleasant Hill, CA

What I liked

I really liked that it was great general work experience and will look great on my resume. I also liked that it was a manager in training position so we were able to see how you run a hotel and all the work behind being a manager.

What I wish was different

I wish that I got paid more and that I didn't have such a crazy schedule. Some weeks I had to work 7 days in a row.

Advice

I would say that it is an internship not a dream job. Set intensions with everything you do and stay positive and know that it is all a great learning experience. Even if yo have hard days you have to remind yourself that it is a stepping stone to get where you one day want to be. Over all I enjoyed my internship with he Marriott they are a great company to work for.
