MAHLE Behr USA Inc.

Production Systems Intern

May 2024 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

The proximity of the plant to the University of Delaware significantly improved my daily commute. The job requirements closely aligned with my previous internship experience, providing me with a strong foundation at MAHLE. This position offered practical application of many theoretical concepts I studied during my degree program. The company's fast-paced production environment necessitated quick adaptation, which ultimately allowed me to gain extensive relevant experience in my field within a short timeframe. My background in Automotive Engineering instilled confidence and reignited my passion for the industry, especially while working for a leading Automotive Parts Manufacturer. The supportive nature of the company staff and colleagues, who were always open to questions and discussions, created a positive and conducive work environment that enhanced my overall experience.

What I wish was different

The only aspect I would have modified in this experience is its duration. An extended tenure at MAHLE would have provided an opportunity to acquire more extensive experience, potentially serving as a catalyst for my long-term career development. At times, I experienced some pressure due to the workload, as I was simultaneously enrolled in a summer course. The requirement to attend classes twice weekly, coupled with the need to fulfill a 40-hour work week, presented some challenges. However, I successfully balanced both academic and professional commitments, demonstrating effective time management and multitasking skills.

Advice

In a challenging job market for recent graduates with limited experience, it's crucial to maximize any opportunity presented. Invest significant effort in your personal and professional development now to facilitate future career advancement. Approach unfamiliar situations as opportunities for growth and mastery. Maintain a proactive attitude by consistently seeking clarification and asking questions. Remember that incremental progress is still valuable. Don't be discouraged if you don't achieve immediate mastery. Cultivate a positive work environment by treating all colleagues, regardless of their position, with equal respect and kindness. This approach not only enhances your professional relationships but also contributes to a more collaborative and productive workplace.
