What I wish was different
I wish Lowe's did more to vet their hires, especially during the summer when the store is practically run by seasonal employees. The fall off between competent employees and those who just aren't willing to work or learn was really clear.
The other thing that was particularly challenging was Lowe's cart retrieval process. There were 8+ different types of carts, many with similar purposes and each going to a different part of the store. Customers who began shopping at one end of the store and checked out at the other would move single-purpose carts to the extreme other end of the parking lot. Different cart types don't stack together properly, but they never bothered to phase out the old carts when new types came in. Additionally, while all cashiers were hired with the same responsibilities only the able-bodied ones were tasked with cart retrieval. It was all done by hand, since there was no machine to push it forward like many neighboring stores have.
