Lincoln Financial Group

Actuarial Intern

June - August 2023 • Greensboro, NC

What I liked

Lincoln's student-focused culture, where employees of all levels are willing and eager to chat about work experience, life, and advice. Lincoln's intentionality in training interns and giving them clear tasks and projects that made meaningful contributions to their team. Lincoln's involvement in corporate social responsibility through volunteering and donating to great programs in local communities.

What I wish was different

A bit more organization in communicating the special intern events, like the half-day volunteering and the internship summit. More support in connecting with other interns prior to the summit. More in-person opportunities!

Advice

Decide what you really want to get out of the experience and work toward the goal(s), whether it is exploring new experiences, obtaining technical skills, developing more knowledge of the company, building relationships and networks, or gaining some other personal development. There is a decent amount of support here, but you also have to take the initiative.

Corporate Intern

June 2022 • Radnor, PA

What I liked

I love the inclusive environment. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I especially have enjoyed my time working in Medical Underwriting. The job environment at Lincoln has a great balance between personal and professional life and if something comes up they are very accommodating. This is an environment that encourages questions and never admonishes mistakes.

What I wish was different

Not a thing.

Advice

They are willing to work with your school schedule in the fall/spring, but summer internships are full-time, so keep that in mind (they are less time-flexible, as all full-time jobs are). Secondly, always remember to be open, but more importantly, be yourself.

Finance and Data Analytics Intern

June - July 2020 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

The program was extremely robust--lots of programming, interesting speakers, meaningful projects, and very attentive program managers. Additionally, the culture at Lincoln (even despite being virtual) was warm and welcoming while also being extremely high-achieving and ambitious. The work infrastructure is well-established and very conducive for new talent success, especially with a starting internship role. My team was also fantastic and filled with really bright people who took a vested interest in me.

What I wish was different

On the program level, the stretch project was extremely intensive and provided meaningful work--at times, it was hard to say the same about the projects assigned to me on the team level. It seemed like those projects were always either too difficult or too easy.

Advice

Expose yourself to as many people as possible (e.g. interns, coworkers, management) and expand your network. The most impactful lessons you'll end up learning will most likely be through word-of-mouth during coffee chats and meet-ups.

Data Analytics Intern

June - July 2020 • Radnor, PA

What I liked

I liked how I was still able to get a great grasp of the company’s culture even though it was a virtual internship. I still was able to get a lot of experience in the industry within the field of data analytics which helped me to leverage a full time job offer at the end!

What I wish was different

Advice

Have an open mind about the virtual experience! Although you are not in the office, it’s even more important to network and reach out to coworkers to get to know them.

Sales Intern

June - July 2020 • Radnor, PA

What I liked

I loved the culture and people at Lincoln Financial Group! I was able to build my professional network, collaborate and work on meaningful projects, and gain work experience at the corporate level. I really enjoyed my internship!

What I wish was different

The internship was originally supposed to be at the office in Radnor, PA but was moved virtual due to COVID-19. Although I completely understand the situation, I wish the internship wasn't virtual so that I was able to meet the employees and other interns in-person!

Advice

Some advice I would give would be make the best out of all the opportunities you are given. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, continue to learn and educate yourself on what you like and do not like, and try to make and maintain as many connections as you can!

What I liked

I have loved working at Lincoln Financial Group. Working there has given me a lot of opportunities to expand my knowledge of the business world and they give you lots of opportunities to grow within the company. I love the workshops and side projects that we get to do throughout the year to help us strengthen our weaker skills and to better understand our place in the work field.

What I wish was different

Sometimes there is unorganization and not clear schedule communication. There have been times where I have felt frustrated because of lack of guidance. Sometimes you work a lot to help participants and this goes unrecognized where as they definitely make sure to point out what you are doing wrong. I think they need to focus more on highlighting the good things that we are doing as well.

Advice

It's a great place to work. I still work here and I hope to stay with the company as long as possible. Overall it has been a positive experience and I have had great managers to work with. If you are seeking to work for a company that will help you to grow and expand your knowledge in the industry of business Lincoln Financial Group is a great way to get your foot in the door.
