Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Reston, VA

What I liked

The technology they work on is really cool and they gave me a lot of freedom to contribute things that I know.

What I wish was different

My team didn't have access to a lot of the resources that are available at Leidos's bigger offices which would have been useful in a lot of situations.

Advice

I've interned at Leidos 3 times, and one time our budget got cut so I had to switch teams, offices.... I've known a lot of people in the same situation, so don't view Leidos as a career, because they will fire you randomly.

Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

The internship gave me the chance to practice with the C programming language and to write code professionally. I also learned a lot from my work because I had to research different algorithms and programming techniques to do my job effectively.

What I wish was different

During the internship, I had my own room in the office, so I didn't always get the chance to interact much with other people, which was in some ways a positive thing and some ways not. I liked having my own space to focus and get stuff done, but I also might have liked the chance to talk to other people more or have people to bounce ideas off of.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. As an intern, you aren't expected to know everything, so if you're ever confused about how to do something, or if you're even confused about what exactly your boss wants you to do, speak up. It's always a good thing to make sure you're on the same page.
