Bank Teller Intern

May - August 2019 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

KeyBank was a great company to work for. The one thing that stood out to me right away was the company's culture. KeyBank welcomed all interns with open hands and made the internship process better than I thought it was going to be.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish that was different would be more interaction with the actual relationship managers. However, KeyBank has reshaped their internship process and has collaborated with interns to make time for the interns to see more of the banking side of the business.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is to come ready to work and learn everyday, be involved (even in awkward situations) , and network as much as you can.

Retail Intern

June - September 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

Everyone there was really welcoming, even though you are an intern and rotate once a month, they still treat you the same as someone who's worked there for a while. Everyone there is always there to help whenever you need help, they want you to succeed and learn as you go.

What I wish was different

Managers putting more effort on teaching the interns about different things that goes on in the bank. I think certain managers exceeded at doing so but some managers don't, they just see you as an extra help and tend to forget that you are there to learn, not just doing the same work over and over all the time.

Advice

Just being yourself and letting them know that you are there to learn about the banking systems. They won't sit there and teach you everything, it is up to you to let them know what you want to learn and stuff.

Retail Banking Intern

May - August 2019 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

The managers and personal bankers that I worked with were friendly and always welcomed me to observe them. Employees within each branch always tried to help me progress through the internship.

What I wish was different

I wish the posting made it known that this was simply a teller job. They advertised this internship as gaining significant banking experience while working with personal and investment bankers. Despite this, I spent 95% of my time at this job working a teller and filling in at different branches around Buffalo that were short staffed. I believe learning how to work the teller line is important but this could have been done in two weeks, not the entire twelve weeks of the internship.

Advice

If you want to work as a bank teller, this would be a good internship for you. If you want in-depth, hands-on experience in personal or investment banking you may want to pursue other opportunities.
