Interoperability Institute

About Interoperability Institute

The Interoperability Institute (IOI) is designed to provide the products, services, leadership, and workforce to bring advanced interoperability solutions to the Health IT market. For stakeholders invested in health and social outcomes, this means less fragmented, more resource-efficient ecosystems that seamlessly share electronic information for public benefit. For consumers, this means greater continuity of care across providers, health systems, and geographies among a myriad of other benefits that stretch beyond healthcare.

IOI was formed as a Limited Liability Company (LLC), and will complete the not-for-profit application in 2021 as an affiliate of the Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN) shared services group.

MiHIN (parent company) is a public and private nonprofit created for the purpose of coordinating and building bridges between healthcare providers throughout the state. From hospitals to pharmacies, MiHIN is creating the technology and resource needed to make sure that the electronic health records of Michigan citizens are available for all that provide care.

This sharing of patient information between legally authorized healthcare providers is known as a Health Information Exchange. The information is stored and transmitted securely. MiHIN represents a growing network of public and private organizations working to overcome data sharing barriers, reduce costs, and ultimately advance the health of Michigan’s population.

Administrative Assistant Intern

June 2019 East Lansing, MI
“I like the friendly atmosphere. Everyone was welcoming and were willing to help me with any questions that I had. It's a learning experience and not like the internships where you just run errands for others the whole time. I learn new things and feel like I am actually contributing to the company in a positive way. ”
