International Paper

Capital Intern

May 2019 • Georgetown, SC

What I liked

International Paper makes you feel welcomed from the minute you arrive on the first day. The employees will sacrifice their own time to help you in any way. The work I was assigned is important to the mill and I wouldn't call it "intern work", which makes you feel like the company puts trust into their interns.

What I wish was different

none

Advice

Make sure you try and talk to and meet as many people as you can. The employees at IP are very helpful and friendly people and will do anything to make your experience the best it could be.

REACH intern

May - August 2019 • Pensacola, FL

What I liked

The people are extremely friendly and helpful. The company really cares about the safety of all employees.

What I wish was different

Your mentors are probably going to be super busy, so sometimes it can be hard to find people do review your work.

Advice

Be proactive. Whether it's asking lots of questions, making connections, reading supplementary knowledge, or learning about something you aren't involved in but maybe one day, do it!

Controls Engineering Intern

May 2019 • Eastover, SC

What I liked

You get the opportunity to work on many different real projects and they tailor it towards what you're interested in. The one on ones really give you an opportunity to correct problems you're having. Its a great learning experience and lots of great people work here.

What I wish was different

I wish overtime was looked at more as a plus not an expectation as an engineer. Some things got started a little slow and people being on vacation due to it during summertime hurt my progress a lot on projects.

Advice

Irritate people as much as possible. By that I mean always get up and go ask questions about your projects, very few people will get irritated with you even though you'll feel like you're bothering them nonstop. In my experience people loved to help the interns anytime they could.

Global Sourcing MRO Intern

June - December 2017 • Memphis, TN

What I liked

I like the fact that this internship is long enough to learn different businesses of the company. I was working in the sourcing department but by having multiple job shadowing sessions, i was able to learn about other supply chain departments and even sales and marketing part of the business. Also we did a lot of volunteer works, training, culture day with interns so it's not only about learning the technical skills but also full of experience with the corporate culture.

What I wish was different

I wish this 6-month internship is like a rotational program. We have a Global Supply Chain group which is consisted of transportation, logistics, center of excellence, sourcing ,,, etc. These are all part of supply chain and I wish that I had an opportunity to work in other departments as well to learn different perspectives.

Advice

By the end of the internship you may have similar projects/ work as the beginning so be proactive and ask for the projects to your mentor and manager to make your 6-month internship with diverse experience.
