Investor Relations Intern
December 2018 • Washington, DC
What I liked
As a typical office intern during the school year, I help manage the daily operations regarding coworkers' business cards, research, office inventory, etc. However, during the summer, the Investor Relations team took me under their wing and I was able to contribute some spotlight articles and research to their annual investment reports.
What I wish was different
I wish I had networked with other departments in the building so that I could branch out to the environmental research team.
Advice
Let your colleagues know what your interests and passions are because they will likely have relevant work for you to do. I work in an international finance institution that spurs development through investing in the finance sector. I am not a finance nor a business student, but I am curious about how environmental conservation can work in tandem with development. When I let the investor relations team know this, they asked me to research their investments in sustainable agricultural practices and renewable energy. If I hadn't expressed my love for the topic, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to put the interest to use.
