Meat Clerk
February 2016 • Omaha, NE
What I liked
I enjoyed being able to take on more responsibility within the department by showing my managers I was willing to work hard. My managers took notice and gave me more tasks, as well as taught me more skills that I now use in my day-to-day work environment.
What I wish was different
The management turnover was very high during the Summer, and it was hard at times to flex with the changing expectations between different work styles.
Advice
I would suggest finding a job that has good management. No matter what style of managing takes place, a good manager will make the job easier by communicating clearly and recognizing talent.

May - August 2018 • Storm Lake, IA
What I liked
I worked under the managers of the kitchen to clean, operate equipment, and prepare food for in-store customers. I also prepared food for caterings and delivered those caterings. I had tremendous fun acting autonomously and making my own decisions while still be accountable to my overseers. I also loved interacting with customers.
What I wish was different
I wish I had of capitalized even more on interacting with customers.
Advice
Don't discount summer jobs! They may not be glorious, but they can give you great insight into what you're good at and what type of person you are.
