About Highline College

Since 1961, community members have counted on Highline College to meet their educational needs close to home. As our area has changed over the years, so have our classes and programs. Today you will find comprehensive community college programs as well as applied bachelor’s degrees. Come to Highline to discover why we are still our community’s college after more than 55 years.

Highline College is nationally and internationally recognized as a premier community college, a reputation earned through the development of an institutional culture that values innovation, globalization of curriculum and community participation. Highline is one of 34 community and technical colleges in Washington state.

Mission:

As a South King County college striving for social justice, Highline College partners with global students as they envision, plan and achieve their educational and professional goals. Adopted October 2022.

Highline College creates anti-racist, equitable pathways in higher education to close opportunity gaps experienced by our students. We support employees to foster the conditions for student and workplace equity. We accept people as they are and honor the life experience they bring. Highline College, which was the first community college in King County, also welcomes students from around the globe, with more than 750 international students studying at its main campus in Des Moines, just 20 minutes south of Seattle. Close to 15,000 students attend Highline each year, making it one of the state’s largest institutions of higher education. It is also the most diverse in the state, with approximately 70 percent students of color.
