Sales and Agronomy Intern

May 2019 - August 2020 • Darlington, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to be involved in every part of the Location in Darlington, as well as travel the State working with Agronomists. I was even involved in fabricating machinery for the location and did potential Customer planting equipment research. I got to see the good jobs, and hard jobs of working in FS.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to have seen more locations in the state. Each region has unique crops and opportunities.

Advice

When a guest speaker comes to interview you for a class project. have a conversation with them. It could lead to you becoming their intern, and then becoming an employee after.

Agronomy Intern

May - August 2020 • Galesburg, IL

What I liked

The Growmark system really invests in their interns way more than I anticipated. This internship is truly what you make it. In my experience all I had to do to explore an area in agronomy or not all, I had to do was ask. I was given multiple guides and books to help me dive further into agronomy. This internship truly put me in the shoes of an agronomist more so than following one around and doing "busy work". I learned how to diagnose plant deficiencies and create a real life solution. I met with customers of FS on my own and with my supervisor. If you guys want an internship that will invest this is the one. The provide everyone with seminars and professional growth opportunities as well as networking. Everyone in the program works on a project throughout the summer and presents it at the end. I really enjoyed that whole process.

What I wish was different

This summer (2020) will always be remembered as unique and it did have some impact on this internship. The poor part was a lot of this internship was online and I was looking forward to the conferences they put on in person. This being said when a unique situation like this occurs it brings out a companies true colors. This company handled that very very well without a beat I still felt invested in and walked away with a very positive internship.

Advice

This internship is truly what you make it. If you want to get a lot out of it stay curious and ask questions. You will not regret it.

Agronomy intern

May - August 2019 • Brodhead, WI

What I liked

I spent most of my days outside learning in different fields with my boss.

What I wish was different

I wish my internship was longer. Extending the job throughout the entire growing season of a corn crop would’ve been very educational.

Advice

Be willing to try different jobs within the internship and ask questions.

Advice

I'm benefitting more from this experience more than I ever could have imagined. My best advice would be to get internship experience, even if it isn't in an area you are most interested in. Get your feet wet and take everything in.
