Health, Safety and Industrial Hygiene Intern

May - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

The fact that I was assigned real projects geared at eliminating ergonomic stressors that employees at one of the smelter site of the company were exposed to. And also the fact that I was given the opportunity to visit the smelter whenever I wanted to collect data relevant to my project.

What I wish was different

To be sincere, I had all by me to be successful in my internship. The resources and data to work on were readily available; and, I will like to work again for this company.

Advice

A good place to work both as an intern and an employee. Very cool and collaborative staffs. Sincere supervisor I had. He was able to tell me areas I need to improve on to be an excellent fit in the field of Health and Safety. As an intern, I had benefits that other companies will not offer for its interns such as health benefits to me and my family as a whole. Never expected this when I was applying to internships for the summer. Will advise each and everyone to seek employment here, because I am doing too.

Automation Process Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Fort Madison, IA

What I liked

Everybody that I encountered while interning was open and available to answer any of my questions, from a forklift driver all the way up to the plant manager. Not only did I learn new technical skills but also professional skills such as interacting with others in morning meetings and sharing my ideas for improvement. When I shared my ideas I always felt like everybody was open and receptive to what I had to say.

Don't be afraid to move to a new place and try new things. I had never been in the state of Iowa before and I ended up living there for 3 and a half months and absolutely loved it.

The team that you work with is amazing. They give you such independence but really help you along the way. They get you involved on every aspect of the job and you really get immersed.

The culture is a little different than one that college grads might be wishing. It's very professional with a lot of older employees.

Advice

Get as involved as you want! If you're as passionate about the Training & Development / HR field as me, you'll enjoy it. If you want something, ask for it.

Security Analyst Intern

May - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I enjoyed working with multiple teams in the security department instead of just working for one. This gave me a broad spectrum of the types of jobs and projects that I can pursue for a career later on.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more of a structure or outline for the kinds of projects and tasks I worked on all summer. This way I could track my progress more accurately and know what was coming up. Instead I created my own project plan that was sufficient to track goals and assignments.

Advice

It was a great learning experience to work for a Fortune 200, corporate company. By taking every opportunity that was offered I gained tremendous advice, business contacts, and hands-on training that I can use to go back to the classroom with a sharper focus for the future.
