FM

Consultant Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Reston, VA

What I liked

I enjoyed working on a project that would benefit the company and interviewing all of the higher ups in the company was a great experience.

What I wish was different

I wish we could have been in person but there was obviously nothing that could be done about that

Advice

Don't be afraid to approach your superiors, they will both enjoy it and appreciate your initiative.

Cyber Security Analyst, Co-op III

January - August 2019 • Johnston, RI

What I liked

The team was very knowledgeable and skilled, they treated me like I was a full member, and they made sure that I had interesting work to do.

What I wish was different

I am not the biggest fan of the area, the work I did and the people I met were amazing but Rhode Island was much less so.

Advice

Take advantage of the resources available to you, the team has a wealth of experience and they are more than willing to teach you.

Account Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Norwood, MA

What I liked

I loved the people I was able to work with at FM Global. The company as a whole was very welcoming. The work I was able to do was different from things I had learned in school, as it was looking at things from both an engineering perspective as well as insurance, with I had not had prior experience with. Overall I felt I was able to complete meaningful work in my time there. I was able to spend several days trailing a field engineer and evaluated risk of other sites that FM Global insured.

What I wish was different

I had only been the second intern for this department so they still were new with the structure of how to deal with an intern. In the future I hope they will be able to have more long term projects and be able to see more sides and be more involved.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask for work or ask questions when you are unsure and vice versa. Your fellow employees are busy but they will always appreciate any help they can give you.

The freedom to work in a lab setting researching cyber threats that cannot be done anywhere else.

What I wish was different

A more diversified group of coworkers, varied in age and experiences.

Public Relations Intern

May 2019 • Johnston, RI

What I liked

FM Global provides interns with true hands on experience. The public relations department included me in weekly meetings, events, and networking opportunities. I was treated like a real employee and worked on projects that directly impacted the business.

What I wish was different

I wish the public relations department was bigger. I was the only PR intern and it would have been helpful to network with other interns majoring in PR.

Advice

Be seen and ask questions. It is so important to walk around the entire building so that people can put a face to your name. Schedule informational meetings and learn from professionals who are experts!

Consultant Engineer

June - August 2018 • Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ

What I liked

Diversified experience that challenged interns with multi-disciplinary objectives that would give the intern a well rounded understanding of FM Global as a whole.

What I wish was different

There needs to be more concrete application of fundamental concepts learned in school. The work did not require any of the core knowledge I learned thus far, which is a slap in the face since we would all spend a minimum of 4 years to complete this degree.

Advice

Great company, great starting pay and benefits across all disciplines. If you are thinking of working here, be prepared to stay for the long haul because a lack of applying engineering fundamentals will make it difficult to transition to a more applied job afterwards.

Field Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Bellevue, WA

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with, I loved the work I was doing, and I loved the fact that I was able to travel!

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

Do your best during internships and don't take them lightly because if you do well and employers enjoy having you around, a full-time offer will be extended!

Engineering Intern

June - August 2017 • West Glocester, RI

What I liked

Everyone there was very friendly and supportive, if I ever had a question I was never afraid to ask and people wouldn't hesitate to help!

What I wish was different

Sometimes the workload was a little slow. I would occasionally have nothing immediate to do because I finished my assigned work early; luckily, I was involved in a few ongoing projects that I could fall back on.

Advice

Keep yourself busy! The day goes faster when you take initiative.
