Forvia Faurecia

health, safety and environmental Intern

February 2023 • Franklin, OH

What I liked

As an HSE Intern at Forvia, I played a pivotal role in ensuring that the organization's health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols remained current and effective. My responsibilities included the assessment and improvement of HSE practices at the facility, as well as conducting comprehensive audits of general HSE procedures and Safety Core Production. Throughout my tenure at Forvia, I leveraged my expertise to update a significant number of HSE documents, enhancing their relevance and accuracy. I further contributed to the plant's overall safety culture by disseminating these updated materials across the facility, ensuring that all team members had access to the most current and relevant information. This hands-on experience allowed me to refine my skills in HSE management, auditing, and communication, equipping me to excel in future roles within the health, safety, and environmental field. Continuing my role as an HSE intern at Forvia, this semester has been a continuation of the positive experiences I had last term. I played a pivotal role in maintaining and improving the organization's health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols, expanding my responsibilities to encompass Safety Core Production. This comprehensive involvement deepened my understanding of HSE management, broadened my auditing skills, and refined my communication abilities. The emphasis on continuous improvement, with ongoing updates to HSE documents, contributes to a proactive safety culture at the facility. Overall, the experience has been instrumental in my professional development.

What I wish was different

I aspire to broaden my knowledge and experience in various HSE aspects to gain a comprehensive understanding of the plant's health, safety, and environmental practices. Upon my return to Forvia this summer, I am eager to seize opportunities that will allow me to expand my expertise, ensuring I am well-equipped to address a wide range of HSE challenges at the facility. This multifaceted approach will enable me to make a significant impact on the plant's safety culture and overall operational excellence. Reflecting on my experience this semester, I recognize the importance of expanding my knowledge across various aspects of HSE. While I have made significant contributions to the plant's safety culture, I wish for more opportunities to delve into diverse HSE challenges. In the upcoming chance at Forvia, my aspiration is to actively seek out projects that expose me to a wider range of HSE practices, ensuring a more comprehensive skill set. This strategic approach aims to position me as a more versatile and effective contributor to the overall operational excellence of the facility.

Advice

If the opportunity to work at Forvia Franklin presents itself, I highly recommend pursuing it. The experience promises to be rewarding, offering valuable professional growth and a chance to contribute to a thriving organization. To future interns considering Forvia Franklin, my advice is unequivocal: seize the opportunity. The internship promises not only professional growth but also the chance to make a meaningful impact on an organization dedicated to safety and excellence. Embrace the challenges, actively engage in projects, and leverage the supportive environment to learn and contribute. Engineering Intern

May - August 2022 • Franklin, OH

What I liked

I had diverse tasks and projects that benefitted different areas of the company. I was able to work autonomously for most of these projects, checking in when I had questions or needed help. Everyone at my plant was always welcoming and friendly. I also appreciated the many ways that Faurecia shows their appreciation for their employees.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more of a list of things to work on from the beginning of my work term. There were ebbs and flows in the amount of projects I had to work on. I am a person who enjoys being challenged on a daily basis; so I had to try to find things to work on at times. If I had more of a rolling list of tasks to refer to, I might have been able to work on those when other projects had slowed.

Advice

I would share that Faurecia is a great company with a solid vision in the automotive field. I was impressed by the cohesive feel of the company as a whole, even though it is worldwide. Although I only worked at the Franklin plant for 12 weeks, I did enjoy the people and company culture that I experienced. I also found that working at Faurecia was also a good mix of office and factory experience.

PC&L Intern

June 2021 • Auburn Hills, MI

What I liked

Great Team to start with, Faurecia as a company is very supporting of their interns and on top of that yet, the PC&L team I worked with was very helpful to me in both learning new things and translating my academic experience to real-world experience.

What I wish was different

The one thing I think would have been very beneficial to me would be a structured start with more training specific to the company and position that then tapered into the incredibly autonomous job that it always was for me.

Advice

Get an internship as quickly as possible, not only is it vastly different from what your professors will teach you, it will also allow you to make sure you actually enjoy the work that you will be doing, and if not you can always go try your hand at another position.

Quality and Warranty Intern

June 2020 • Auburn Hills, MI

What I liked

They're able to work around school schedules a lot. With COVID, they've been great at getting me set up to work from home.

What I wish was different

There's not a whole lot for me to do at the moment. I generally get small projects/tasks very sporadically. Very little work is regular aside from a few small monthly file updates. This may be because of the current situation, but I would have no way to tell.

Advice

Ask for something to work on, and you'll likely get something out of it.

Controlling Intern

May 2018 • Saline, MI

What I liked

I really liked how much SAP exposure I am getting everyday. Over time my work load has grown and they have placed more trust in me. I love my work environment and how much I am learning everyday.

What I wish was different

At first, I was really scared to ask questions and I wish I would have grown out of that quicker. When first starting, I wish the instructions of what was expected was more clear than they were.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions. They don't except you to know much of the information or the processes they use. They want you to reach out to your peers and ask questions. Questions help you learn.
