Finance Intern

May - August 2019 • Plano, TX

What I liked

The internship program allowed for great exposure and provided great development and networking opportunity. My team was great and very hands-on. They definitely prepare you for a full time role and typically recruit from the internship program for entry level roles.

What I wish was different

It would be nice to have more options for the areas to intern under.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions, be proactive with networking and projects. Try to learn as much as possible about the different groups and teams around you.

Analytics Intern

June - August 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I enjoyed every aspect of this internship, from my internship cohort to my final presentation/project. Being able to work at a company that plays such a large role in our country chasing our vision of making home ownership possible for everyone. With the magnitude of the role that this company plays, the projects and work I was assigned did not ever feel like busy work, but it in fact felt like work that would make a difference in someone else's life. The training was amazing as well having mentors educate me on the secondary mortgage market and technical skills for data analysis like SQL, R, Python, and BI tools.

What I wish was different

I have no complaints and can't wish anything else were to have been different aside from being remote. Although I wished I got the full office experience, it is nice knowing that I am able to complete my work in a timely manner from the comfort of my own home if offices still choose to stay closed.

Advice

One piece of advice that I could offer will be to reach out to as many people as you can. Whether that be individuals in your division/team or in a different division, everyone at Fannie Mae is always willing to speak to you about anything and it could also be beneficial in bolstering ones network of finding a different career interest within Fannie Mae that may interest you more.

Finance Transformation and Data Intern

June - July 2020 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Fannie Mae is a very diverse and inclusive company, and that is evident from the very first day. I enjoy being part of an organization that is so proactive and being kept up-to-date in what is happening in our society. Everyone at Fannie Mae is super welcoming and helpful. You discuss and work out what you want to get out of the internship and what you would like to see throughout the summer. You are able to network with tons of people and learn about the different teams throughout the company. I also really like the benefits interns receive and the opportunity to be offered a full-time position.

What I wish was different

My experience was great. I would have loved for it to be in-person so that I could connect more with other interns, but I wouldn't say that it was impossible to meet with them virtually.

Advice

Be work-hungry. Always ask your team members if they need help with anything or if there is something you can take off their plate. Take advantage of all the side trainings and learning modules Fannie Mae and the Future Housing Leaders (FHL) program provides. There is always something new to learn, so stay busy. Reach out and connect with employees in departments different from yours. Learn what other teams do since there is a possibility to apply to Fannie Mae full-time after your internship with a team different from what you had during the summer.
