What I liked

Everything. The university recruiters are the best: Kim, Sean, and Michelle are super supportive. Interns were even able to voice their preferences for team assignments.

Software Engineering Intern

June - September 2021 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Culture was amazing, recruiter experience was wonderful, everyone was focused on my learning.

What I wish was different

The team I was on had a really tough schedule to fulfill, with most of my development team being in Hyderabad. I was pulling some weird hours and had a hard time figuring out when to talk to people, so I do wish I did a better job with that.

Advice

Be proactive about what it is you want to do, and look for new experiences even if they aren't assigned to you.

Big IP Control System Intern

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved my team. I loved my mentor, especially, and it was such a good first industry experience.

What I wish was different

I think I may have benefited more if it was a project-based internship. Because it was not, my responsibilities were sometimes not clear.

Advice

Don't be afraid of asking for more work and taking charge of your experience.

What I liked

Great mentor, meaningful projects, great intern benefits (free gym, health insurance, 401k, transit pass, flexible schedule)

What I wish was different

More social events for interns, better internship program organization

Advice

The quality and value of your experience depends on two things: the team/mentor(s)/manager you work with, and the effort you make to network and do good work.

International Accounting Intern

June - September 2017 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved the culture of F5 and my team. I was given meaningful work and really felt as though what I working on contributed to the bottom line of the company. I won't go into specific details, but I was doing work that traditionally a CPA would do. Additionally, the CFO knew my name, and the CEO took time to spend with interns. The intern program, while new, was still so well organized and I was made to feel as though it was one of the company's top priorities to ensure that we had a meaningful, busy, and enjoyable experience.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship could have lasted forever!

Advice

Go into your internship dressed well--come in early and stay late. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If your boss/team wants to go out to lunch, do that with them. Every moment is an opportunity to make a connection that could lead to a job.
