EFY Building Counselor

What I liked

EFY is a great employer and a wonderful program to work for. I gained valuable leadership experiences and qualities. I was able to work with 50 counselors over the summer in a one-on-one mentoring role. I also got to travel to a few different states for EFY sessions. This was a great job experience!

Youth Counselor

What I liked

This job allowed me to grow in ways that I didn’t think was possible. Being around so many incredible youth really inspired me in a lot of different ways and provided me with many new friendships. Everyone was so willing to work together for good and you were always surrounded by love and encouragement

What I wish was different

There were some scheduling conflicts with our daily/weekly schedule plan, but that’s about it

Be prepared for anything! Expected things that you think wouldn’t happen.

EFY provides the perfect scenario for someone to develop their professional skills while working in a positive, spiritually-uplifting environment.

What I wish was different

I wish I would've asked for help more and taken advantage of all the helping hands around me rather than trying to do some things on my own.

Advice

Go into it with an open mind and understand that every single person has something to contribute. It takes everyone giving their best efforts to make it miracle of a program that it is.

What I liked

This job gives you great teaching experience and you are always helping youth out with everything. It's a really fun job and you are always partying! EFY also covers housing, food, and travel.

What I wish was different

The hours are really long and it's overnight. You attend to every youth's need and sometimes it feels like you are babysitting. The pay isn't great either.

Advice

Plan for everything- extra bandaids, skirts, etc. You can't predict what you'll need.

I wish I would have had more time off as this was a job with long hours and less sleep than usual.

This job was stressful but it was so rewarding. Coworkers and the environment make it all worth it.

Believe in your own abilities because you were chosen for this job for a reason, and you have skills that no one else has. You are needed!

I wish I had worked more weeks!

Advice

Don’t do this job if you don’t have a lot of energy! You need to be able to walk over 20,000 steps per day in 100+ degree weather while still being excited and dancing on 5-6 hours of sleep!
