Edward Jones Investments

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

Everyone was always nice and very willing to help with any issues you had. Furthermore, I had a great intern mentor who I talked to and checked in with every week, to make sure that everything was going smoothly, that I was being fulfilled in what I wanted out of the internship and more.

What I wish was different

Newer technology and practices. Being a financial institution that has been around for a very large time, in addition to being held to regulations by the government makes the progress of tech here slow. Getting interns to work on the newer tech and development would probably be best.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out to others for help, or to build connections with them. If there are any problems you run into, then be sure to voice them! Support can always be found.

Financial Advisor Intern

June - August 2019 • Bloomington, IL

What I liked

I liked that this was a real world experience where I got to get hands on work. I was able to actually prep for client meetings and sit in on them so that I could better understand how to conduct client meetings. I also liked that I was able to visit multiple financial advisers to see different levels of the career whether it be the initial phase where you are prospecting face to face all the way to an upper level adviser who mainly worked with talking to clients. This opened my eyes to the advising career and gave me a good basis for what I want to do in my career.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish would have been different is that I could actually talk in the client meetings. Obviously this isn't allowed because I don't have my certifications yet, but if I would be able to take that chance to talk, I feel like I would be able to go even further and dive in to the career more.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share about my experience is make sure that you engulf yourself with the career that you are in and make sure you are constantly asking questions and meeting people. Networking is a huge aspect of advancing your career. From my experience, being able to meet people in this career field truly helps getting to the next step of turning your internship into a career.

What I liked

The intern program and continued learning along with the culture of the firm made for a great summer learning experience!

What I wish was different

I wish I would have asked for a raise to make the pay competitive with other interns, because I had already been with the firm for 8months by the time I started my internship!

Advice

Apply early and immerse yourself in the culture to ensure you get the most out of your opportunity!
