Small intern class which gave me tons of hands-on and impactful experiences.

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
Working and living in New York City, as well as working for such a large corporation with corporate events and benefits.
What I wish was different
Advice
Be overly prepared and determined when chosing and networking with groups within an investment bank. I was not in my group of choice, and I think my experience would have been substantially better if I was placed in a different group.

Technology Analyst
June - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
I had a good introduction to the industry. I worked with a team of software engineers and learned a lot about coding practices, agile, and working in an office.
What I wish was different
The program was not very well organized. A lot of interns did not have attentive and interested managers and there was not a good system in place to monitor and evaluate interns.
Advice
There is a huge learning curve. I felt overwhelmed at first, but it is normal for it to take about two weeks to get acclimated to a new job, especially in a technical field.

What I liked
What I wish was different
I wish that Columbia had done a better job at preparing me for this job.
Advice
Pick your summer internship position carefully, do not accept a position from a company you do not at all wish to work at full time, since it is the best time to lock-down a full-time job.

Technology Intern
June - July 2017 • New York City, NY
What I liked
The internship program is really well resourced- there are a lot of events and talks to teach interns more about the industry itself.
What I wish was different
There was more organization; there was a lack of direction for the tech program specifically.
Advice
This is definitely different from a typical tech internship. If you are looking to developing technical skills it might not be the best option- depends on your luck whether or not you get placed on a good team. But overall very friendly culture and again huge emphasis on interns learning a lot.

What I liked
Working environment, highly diverse, opportunity to switch team to test your ability, easy to approach to high positioned people, intern project where we work with our fellow intern.
What I wish was different
A little longer internship since it takes a week or two to settle in the environment.
Advice
Try to solve the problem at your end by doing research and if still stuck then don't feel scared of approaching to other people for help.

Investment Banking Summer Analyst
June - August 2017 • New York City, NY
What I liked
Deutsche Bank has a great culture that makes it a really rewarding and enriching place to work. Not only do I feel like I learned a lot and had a lot of responsibility in my day-to-day work, but I also felt as though the internship program as a whole provided numerous opportunities to learn and grow and prepare me for a full-time role. Plus, I really enjoyed everyone I worked with, which made long days at the office bearable!
What I wish was different
I think every person in IB wishes the hours were different but it's just part of the job! You get used to working... a lot.
Advice
Ask questions and be prepared to learn a TON. Always have a notebook and pen with you - you can't remember everything. Over-communicate; over-deliver. And don't take it too seriously! You are a still student, you should enjoy the process and the journey.

Technology Analyst Intern
June - August 2017 • New York City, NY
What I liked
This was an excellent opportunity to grow my technical and interpersonal skills. They also bring you back for full-time if you do well.
What I wish was different
Less work events and more time to write code would have been helpful.
Advice
Work hard and deliver all your deliverables and you should be just fine!
I liked the collaborative culture of Deutsche Bank and the people who truly invested in me and cared about my success. I learned a lot while interning in a great environment and gaining awesome exposure to banking.
What I wish was different
Since I was completing a sophomore internship, I had not yet taken my finance major courses yet so I wish I knew more prior to starting. However, I learned a lot through experiential learning, modeling classes, and other sessions designed to help me with the learning curve.
Advice
I would recommend future interns to take advantage of all the opportunities to speak to people and network with them to learn more about their career paths and why they enjoy doing what they do. This can be extremely beneficial in helping mold your own path.
