What I liked

I also helped to create displays and source images and materials for promotional materials. This is what we would call "bringing the archieves to life". Some of these projects included designing and creating the display of the New York Foundation of The Arts Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program Exhibition at Centro de Artes and the creation of the framework of the Berlin Residency Program Catalogue. The best part of the internship was seeing the projects I started be realized. The process of taking a preliminary concept and making it into something real and impactful was definitely the best part of the internship.

What I wish was different

The worst aspect would have been the repetition of the digitization process. During the scanning process (digitization) I often sat for hours making individual scans of hundreds of slides which could get old. Although this process wasn't all that bad as long as I kept myself busy with other tasks in the time between scans.

Advice

I would recommend this program (ALE) and position to anyone who is looking for something productive to do over the summer. The program not only gives you work experience but also pays for your housing and gives OVC credit. BSC is a great place to work and the people are very friendly and easy to work alongside. In addition, there are often opportunities for you to work on large interesting projects.
