What I liked

Conning's size and hybrid work environment permitted a substantial amount of opportunities to connect with and learn from employees and leadership within and outside my department. Everyone was very generous with their industry knowledge, career and education insights, and their time.

Investment Analyst Intern

June 2018 • Hartford, CT

What I liked

People were very accessible and willing to answer my questions. And there were many questions. When I was in the office the layout was very open and workers of all departments and levels were in close proximity rather than behind daunting closed doors. When online for the summer the transition was very seamless for the most part and we still maintained lots of access to higher level people in the company. That includes the CEO, CFO, and heads of other locations taking time out of their days to talk to our intern class.

Advice

Asking a bunch of questions about the lingo and acronyms are a great way to start wrapping your head around the many new concepts.

Credit Analyst Intern

June - August 2019 • Hartford, CT

What I liked

The company was small enough for me to have access to conversation with senior management and get to know a little about the different fields. Beautifully updated office space and technology. They have a relatively innovative nature. For example, our end of the summer intern project was to pitch a new idea to C-Level executives that Conning could actually implement in the future.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more circulation of interns around the different sectors. That would have been hard considering: 1. It was only a 10 week internship 2. I was offered the chance to switch departments upon returning next summer.

Advice

Learn a little about what every department does so you can create a whole story of company operations. It allows you to understand what you actually are interested in and makes you better at your job.

Software Developer Intern

June - August 2018 • Hartford, CT

What I liked

The culture of the company was a very good fit. The Intern Program was very impressive and made sure that I got included into different aspects of the company and build my network. The industry experience was very helpful.

What I wish was different

Nothing really. Great company, amazing intern program.

Advice

Get the most out of the opportunities these companies offer, even though it might not be something you want to pursue in the future. The network you build is helpful and so is the professional experience, even if it doesn’t currently fall in line with your main interests.
