Undergraduate Research Assistant

June - August 2018 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed my research professor's willingness to actively engage in my research and teach me new techniques and how to use various machinery and equipment. The faculty are always happy to help and answer any questions you may have about the project. I was also able to learn more about Chapman's pharmacy program during my time here.

What I wish was different

The autoclaves are not the best and often break down, which make the simple task of autoclaving equipment or liquids tedious.

Advice

Research requires diligence and consistency in time management and scheduling. If you are also taking classes or working other jobs, be prepared to accommodate changes in your research schedule since changes do happen.

Office Assistant

February 2018 • Orange, CA

What I liked

Being able to correctly assist students and parents calling with their questions and concerns.

What I wish was different

There was a lot of down time during the lulls of the summer. Certain weeks and information release dates brought more phone calls and walk-ins than usual, but in between those times, there would be minimal work.

Advice

Customer service is a valuable skill. If you are working in a place that requires phone etiquette, PRACTICE and don't be afraid to ask your supervisors or peers questions if you don't know the answer. It is always better to double check than to give out false information.
