I loved being able to work with children everyday of summer. I was able to create lesson plans about things I wanted to explore as well as topics they found interesting as well. We performed science experiments, did crafts, and explored the surrounding neighborhood.
What I wish was different
The roster of children changed quite a bit throughout the summer, which is inevitable because families take vacations and visit relatives.
Advice
Be creative! While working with third and fourth graders, I learned that everyday is an adventure and their wide array of interests kept me on my toes. Find ways to incorporate these interests into activities that will prepare them for the upcoming school year and keep them relevant to their lives and culture.
