Quality Steering Co-op

May 2018 - December 2019 • Spartanburg, SC

What I liked

Very cool working at the largest BMW Manufacturing Plant in the world! Being able to walk through the assembly line everyday and watch these amazing vehicles being built was an awesome experience.

What I wish was different

More engineering opportunities. The department I worked in is mainly problem steering/management, so not a ton of engineering is done. However, there are different departments that are more engineering based.

Advice

BMW Manufacturing is a very fast pace working environment - however people are always willing to help co-ops and it is a great place to learn manufacturing processes. Also an awesome place to make connections here in Spartanburg along with international connections in Germany.

Software Quality Engineer Intern

May - August 2019 • Spartanburg, SC

What I liked

I Really enjoyed the work. I loved being able to work with a team to solve problems regarding quality of super cool cars. I enjoyed getting to know all of my coworkers and being able to explore the assembly process of BMW's SUVs

What I wish was different

I will the location was different. There is a lot of traffic in the area that I was working in and my personality does not fit in the south. I also wish that there would have been a little more for me to do. My managers and mentors were very busy so it was hard for them to give me projects and things to work on.

Advice

Engineering in the real work is vastly different than it is in college. There are so many directions that it can take you and you never know what you may end up doing.

Launch Material Control

January - August 2017 • Spartanburg, SC

What I liked

Challenging internship and BMW assigns you projects that are actually important. A lot of hands on experiences that help you learn about the field you are working in.

What I wish was different

There is a sink or swim mentality for the department I worked in. I wish there had been a more structured training for my department.

Advice

Go in and work hard. Take every single task they ask you to do no matter how boring it may be. The reason I say this is because once they see that you are a capable and hard-working person they will be more likely to assign you cooler and more challenging projects.

Co-op

May - December 2017 • Greer, SC

What I liked

Received good hands on experience in the manufacturing field as well as networked with hundreds of associates and specialists in my field and similar fields to mine.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a slightly heavier workload. Being in the planning department, it’s hard to work directly with things that will affect the production and quality of the vehicle, which would cost BMW money

Advice

Network with as many people as you can, while you can. The people who will work with and mentor you will provide you invaluable information, skills, and advice in your career.
