-The site does not offer full-time positions due to their limited head-count -Remote location

Be a well rounded employee, work overtime and make an effort to network with site employees.

I&I Summer Intern

What I liked

I enjoyed working in a relaxed environment filled with highly educated individuals conducting research they are passionate about.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more supervisor and peer involvement with my project. I was often left by myself to make design decisions only to completely revise material a week after implementation.

Advice

Communicate more with people outside your immediate office, building, and department. Become involved with other corporate programs and presentations around you while still dedicating enough time to excel in your assigned work.

What I liked

Experienced a professional lab setting. People were very knowledgeable about the practices and made the experience fun. Was able to watch and learn from highly skilled people at the position while still having fun and enjoying the experience.

Wish the company offers relocation stipend.

Knowing how to work with people coming from different backgrounds. Being open minded on all projects and offering input even if you think it's not useful.

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to meet and work with so many new people at the plant. The industrial experience gained is priceless when coming time to apply for a job after college. I liked that I was given freedom to perform my job duties and not have to have someone watching me the entire time to make sure everything was done right. This showed that the employer had lots of trust in me and my abilities.

What I wish was different

More opportunity to test samples in the unit labs.

It is great experience because of the people you meet and the experience for your resume.

What I liked

It provided me with experience in the workforce and to see what it’s like to be an engineer. Sadly I didn’t get that much experience with actual mechanical engineering assignments but I was still able to experience meetings, see what they did etc.

That I got to do more experience with mechanical engineering situations/assignments

Learn everything that you can. You never know what they might ask you to do.

Commercial & Sales Professional Development Program (PDP) Summer Intern

What I liked

Good program structure, helpful networking events at my site and at the company headquarters in Florham Park, and mandatory professional workshops and chats with former interns who are now full-time employees.

What I wish was different

More intern events to connect with other summer interns at different sites in New Jersey within the company. I was the only intern on my small team, and there wasn't much support.

Advice

Internal networking at BASF is so important, so make sure you're scheduling lunch/coffee meetings with as many senior-level people as possible. Those connections will prove useful as you move up in the company.

What I liked

I loved how I gained hands-on experience conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis for global regulatory compliance submissions. I also had the opportunity to contribute to their various patents and R&D projects.

Don't be afraid to ask your manager/s to see and learn about the company's other divisions. They are actually happy to help you learn more about the company and its various products.

What I liked

The internship gave me the opportunity to gain hands on experiences and on the job training. I have been working side by side with an experienced mechanical engineer and have been given lots of learning opportunities.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I think this internship has it all. The company allows me to further my learning and gives me worthwhile project to do.

Advice

If you have a mentor take advantage of the it! I spoke with my mentor daily about work, my career and technical skills that I needed to learn and improve on.

I loved how I got to work on real engineering projects that benefitted the plant I was working in and also working alongside chemical operators that were a big help to me with completing the projects

What I wish was different

I had a little bit more knowledge of the projects I had. I was a Freshman and did not know the basics I needed to successfully complete some projects

Do not get discouraged if the internship you did was not what you thought it would be. It’s always a learning experience and you are now one step closer to finding out your ideal industry.

What I liked

I got to network with VPs and high-level executives throughout my internship, I had a lot of autonomy over my project and enjoyed my working environment and the people I was working with.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more projects to work on, sometimes I was bored. The program had a lot of outstanding requirements which wasn't disclosed to us before joining. I wish I had known more about these requirements before accepting my offer.

Advice

This program is great if you want to start a career in sales, marketing and/or procurement, but there is not a lot of room to grow in different business sectors. I realized during my internship that I really enjoyed the client-facing work and problem solving rather than this sales/marketing track and thus, decided to move towards consulting.

Lots of different assignments to work on. Working on an international team for a global supply chain was also a cool experience. People and culture around learning were really great too.

What I wish was different

It was my very first internship, I only con I might have had was that I wish the assignments may have been a bit more structured. But I have no complaints!

Definitely take the time to meet as many people as you can because everyone is so open to sharing their experiences both in and out of the company.

What I liked

The people I worked with and the company culture were great. They really encourage you to network and meet as many people as possible, which allows you to gain a lot of knowledge about the industry and all areas of business. They invest a lot into their PDP interns and the PDP program. I had a lot of autonomy when it came to my projects as well, which I really enjoyed. You're also set up with a professional mentor who is there to offer career advice and valuable connections with other high up professionals.

What I wish was different

They told me I would be working in Florham Park, NJ and then placed me in Michigan ( I live in NJ). Need more transparency with the placement process..

Advice

Everyone there has a neat experience and a lot to offer, by networking and meeting people all throughout the company you're really able to gain knowledge and life/career advice.
