Autoliv ASP, Inc.

Parts Inspector

May - August 2019 • Brigham City, UT

What I liked

I was allowed to listen to music while I worked, it helped the time pass since the job was very repetitive. My coworkers were also very helpful when I had any questions.

What I wish was different

I wish the hours were more steady, if we didn't have anything to inspect we were sent home. Since this was a summer job, I was trying to get as many hours as possible so it was kind of frustrating at times.

Machine Design Engineer

June 2016 • Ogden, UT

What I liked

The coworkers, managers, and team members are so down to earth. We work together to find solutions to problems and everyone is so respectful and diligent in their work.

What I wish was different

Most employees are contract (no term) which means no benefits, and they could no longer need you without notice.

Advice

Respect everyone. Every member of the team, designer, assembler, controls, project managers, etc all have valuable insights to bring. This is a sharp learning curve position and the work (at least for the next few years) is extremely fast paced.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Ogden, UT

What I liked

I loved the experience of working with a world-wide company. They take the business of saving lives very serious. That is how I would like to help people, through engineering. I enjoyed all the people I met, and I hope to stay in contact with many of them.

What I wish was different

I helped out with a lot of tasks, but I wish I had asked for more projects. I tried to take advantage of my time there but I always wish I could've done more.

Advice

You get out of it what you put into it. If you want to learn about engineering and about the industry, then start asking around and getting work to do. Everyone is always busy and any help you can offer them would help them and yourself.

Quality Engineer Intern

May 2018 • Ogden, UT

What I liked

Autoliv is a great company, I learned a lot about manufacturing processes and helped solve some real problems as an intern. They also worked hard to keep me on while finishing school and let me work around my schedule.

Advice

Give your resume to everyone at the career fair! I only briefly talked to Autoliv's representatives at the fair, and they gave me a call a couple months later for an interview.

Quality Engineer Intern

May - August 2018 • Ogden, UT

What I liked

I liked the importance of Autoliv's work because they literally save lives. It gave the job a greater purpose.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been more diligent and proactive when it came to finding and completing projects to work on.

Advice

It's very important to be a self-starter and find projects rather than sitting around waiting to be assigned tasks.

Summer Co-op

May - August 2018 • Ogden, UT

What I liked

Great work atmosphere, I was working with an excellent set of engineers. I never felt like people thought I was incompetent or like the others didn't like me because I was temporary, rather I was welcomed as a contributor of fresh ideas. I was given a mentor, a project of my own, and autonomy in my work. It was also more hands-on than some engineering firms, which was a plus.

What I wish was different

My only complaint was that it wasn't in cache valley, but that would be asking too much.

Advice

I learned a great deal during my internship, I highly recommend an internship for anyone who has the opportunity to do one. Also, build your network. I may not have gotten the offer if I didn't personally know someone in the company. There was only a small percentage of interns there there that didn't have family or another personal connection to the company.

Production Control Intern. I performed the duties of a material analyst.

May - August 2017 • Tremonton, UT

What I liked

I liked that the internship duties were so connected with what I was studying in school.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have given me more responsibility earlier in the internship. I wish I would have started material planning within the first few weeks. I started in the second month.

Advice

Consistently ask your manager for more responsibility. Don't wait until you feel more "comfortable", which could take months. Jump right in, and start making big contributions early.
