Appalachian Headwaters

About Appalachian Headwaters

Appalachian Headwaters is a nonprofit organization working to develop sustainable economic opportunities while restoring damaged ecosystems in central Appalachia.
Our current programs include community beekeeping, mined land restoration, and native plant horticultural — all designed and implemented to create local, long-term jobs.
Our staff works with leading experts to restore productive native hardwood forests and improve water quality on former surface mine sites in our region. Our Appalachian Beekeeping Collective and Native Plant Horticulture Initiative programs focus on teaching and supporting people in our region as they learn to participate in growth industries. We help displaced or underemployed workers to earn income while repairing our natural environment.

Camp Counselor

June 2021 - July 2021 Hinton, WV
“I loved getting to share my passion for the outdoors with kids! Environmental education was a main focus of the camp and allowed me to gain skills in that discipline as well as help the kids learn about the Appalachian region. This job gave me crucial life skills such as decision-making, leadership, and childcare while also allowing me to have a fun, relaxed, outdoors summer job.”
