AllPeople

Product Management Intern

August - December 2021 • San Luis Obispo, CA

What I liked

As a PM intern, I liked how I got the opportunity to engage with interns from many different departments. I got to involve myself with work ranging from assisting with administrative tasks to web development.

What I wish was different

I personally wish there were more tasks for me to do, specifically related to PM. It often felt like there was nothing to do for long periods of time. Also, it would've been nice to have a mentor or worker experienced in PM that I could talk to to further my skills in the domain.

Advice

AllPeople is a startup; interns should come in with a clear idea of what they want out of the internship. Ideally you are a self-starter with multiple ideas in mind about what you hope to accomplish, projects you'd like to work on, etc. Chances are that you will get to work on it. If not, it's easy to get lost or even bored. You only get out what you put in.

What I liked

I liked this internship had a flexible schedule. The advisors and project managers were amazing! They provided interns with deliverables for projects. They were willing to meet with me to clarify any questions I had. Advisors gave all the interns advice about career development. Project Manager Intern

August 2020 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I love the ideologies and goals of AllPeople. Not only am I able to gain (remote) experience during this time, but I am able to explore and work with a company that finds value in the factors that matter most like sustainability, responsible consumption, battling capitalism, and more. I loved working in a team setting, I was able to reflect off of team members and their attitudes, work closely with advisors and team leads, and really get my feet wet in something I had no idea about.

What I wish was different

As this is something I am currently active in, I am trying to avoid getting comfortable. As the end of the intern season and the semester approaches, I can feel the weight of both and more play a role in my day to day. Moving forward, setting goals, and understanding progress is not always forward has been an important aspect. I wish it wasn't remote, don't we all, but I'm glad I was able to get something under my belt during this time. Do what you can while you can!

Advice

AllPeople has made me realize that when doing something you enjoy, it isn't exactly 'work.' I have found that doing things I don't enjoy, is work and some. This is not me saying do what you love, but rather try things you might love, try things you might be interested in, try things you might hate, you never know what you'll get out of an opportunity, and always do your best to get the most out of it.

Marketing Intern

June - August 2020 • San Luis Obispo, CA

What I liked

I liked the flexibility of working remotely. I was also given a lot of freedom with projects.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more engagement with all the other amazing interns that were working alongside me! A remote internship definitely loses the value of creating strong social networking bonds along the way.

Advice

Even if the job description doesn't totally match your current interests/career pursuits, if you have the time, it's still a great opportunity to try something new and gain some experience.

Financial Analyst Intern

May 2018 • San Luis Obispo, CA

What I liked

Working at AllPeople has been a great experience. I've been able to gain experience in many different aspects of starting a business all while working for a company whose values align with my own. Not only is the team fun, but we are also productive, which we have to be in such a fast moving, exciting world.

What I wish was different

I hope that soon we will be able to have a little bit more space around the office. We're growing quickly, and looking for more people to join us, so sometimes the tables we have can feel a little cramped.

Advice

Get used to communicating frequently with others, and be ready to ask for help and give help when needed.
