Visionary leaders from around the world founded the Alliance for Sustainability 43 years ago with a mission of co-creating sustainability on a personal, organizational and planetary level. The Alliance has always defined sustainability as ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just and humane, ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just and humane, embodying our highest values in terms of how we treat people, animals and the planet.
We envision a healthy, just, equitable, thriving, kind and peaceful world that works for everyone, fulfills their fundamental needs and realizes our greatest dreams of sustainability.
In response to the ongoing, horrific murders of George Floyd and other people of color, the climate crisis and the anti-democracy movement, the Alliance re-evaluated our work in 2020. We felt the need to scale solutions through increased collaboration with strategic partners, leading to the development of our comprehensive Campaign for Sustainability, Health, Equity and Kindness (S.H.E. Kindness).
The purpose of the Campaign is to bring about fundamental systems change through personal and organizational transformation and impactful public policies. To accomplish this, we are using positive, inspiring messaging, training and advocacy, while supporting and amplifying the work of young people and aligned groups. We developed four programs building upon our past work: Business, Public Policy, Outreach & Communications for Impact and Akepa Youth & School Program, which we’re seeking support for.
Our Akepa Youth & School Program is core to our mission as it develops environmental stewards and leaders, enhances environmental appreciation and education, and offers comprehensive education and hands-on experiences. Students will develop critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of sustainability and the interconnectedness of environmental and social issues, as well as the tools to cultivate change.
